1. Mulled Wine
Ok so this is a bit basic bitch, but it’s a good entry level home made drink right?
All you have to do is buy a bottle of mulled wine (or normal red wine) and warm it up – easy. Select one of the delicious mulled wines below, pop it in a sauce pan and let it simmer but not boil. Add spices, cloves, orange rind, cinnamon sticks and bay leaves and voil? – you have Mulled Wine… you fancy pants.?
Here’s a couple of mulled wines you can order now in preparation ?…
2. Red Wine Hot Chocolate
We know what you’re thinking: Red Wine and Hot Chocolate – WTF? But trust us, it’s a thing.
Best made with a high-quality dark chocolate (Yep, the real deal) start by warming whole milk (sorry vegan friends) in a saucepan with the finely chopped chocolate – let it simmer so the chocolate melts. Do not let the milk boil. Now add a spoon of brown sugar and 2 tablespoons of unsweetened cocoa powder. Warm for approx 5 mins and then remove from the heat and add your wine (best with fruity wines).
Serve with a cinnamon stick to make it look extra slick.
Once you have tried this beauty, you will probably not bother with any other winter cocktail.
3. Dominican Spiced
Slightly more complex but still achievable
For this treat you will need to get together the below ingredients:
- A bottle of red wine
- A bottle of apple cider
- A small amount of amber rum
- 2 tablespoons of honey
- Half a teaspoon of cinnamon
- Half a teaspoon of ground cloves
- 3 whole star anise
- 2 tablespoons of dried fine cut chamomile
- 2 tablespoons of dried valerian root
There are more ingredients there than in most meals but put them all together in a large saucepan and heat them slowly and you’ll end up with a bomb-ass warm cocktail. When it starts to simmer give it another 5 mins. It is a fruity and spicy cocktail that your girl or mates will rave about.
4. Smoking Bishop
Like the previous cocktail, this one needs quite a few ingredients too but you just pop them in a saucepan and heat it up.
Grab the below ingredients:
- A bottle of red wine
- A bottle of port
- 2 lemons
- 1 lime
- 10 cloves
- A quarter of a teaspoon of ground allspice, cinnamon, ginger and ground mace.
- A small chunk of ginger peeled and chopped
- Cinnamon sticks
- 3 large tablespoons of brown sugar
- Citrus fruits
Warm it all up in a saucepan and then add grated nutmeg and pieces of citrus fruits before you serve. This is a delightful warm cocktail with a difference and is one of the most refreshing ones of them all.
There is no end of combinations that you can be put together for warm wine cocktails, you just have to remember a couple of rules;
The warm will fare better if it is heated slowly and never bring it to the boil. No matter how sweet a wine is, boiling it will make it taste bitter, and spoil your warm cocktail totally. You can put anything you like into them, but fruits and spices are the most popular additions.
If you really want to impress your date or your mates then add garnish and serve them in decent glasses to make it look super swanky.

If you make any of these then let us know how it goes in the comments section below.
Enjoy, you absolute catch…
