If you have ever been to John Soane’s Museum (formerly his house in London) you know you are in for a treat when you go to his country home the Pitzhanger Manor in Ealing. It is beautiful.
Here at the Pitzhanger Manor and Gallery, you will find exhibitions and events, and until the 12th January, you will find Es Devlin’s exhibition.
Well if you haven’t heard of her she is pretty epic, an artist and stage designer who has created stage sculptures for the likes of Beyonce, Adele and Lorde.
Devlin’s list of work is quite lengthy along with the awards that she has received for some of them, annnnddd she was named RSA Royal Designer for Industry and was made OBE in 2015.
It is a fucking epic immersive installation. The end. That’s all you need to know….
Ok, we will tell you more.
First off, Memory Palace is another term for the method of loci (loci is Latin for ‘places’) it is a method to enhance memory using visualisations, spatial memory and familiar information about your environment to recall information. Clever shit.
Within this exhibition, Devlin and her team use the installation to try to get our memories to provoke debate.
The 18-metre- wide- sculpture fills the gallery. You thought time travel was impossible, well not here, you will travel through time (over 75 millennia to be precise). Start your travels in the southern African caves to the place in Switzerland where the world wide web was conceived.
This exhibition closes on 12th January 2020. The gallery is open Tuesday- Friday: 10:00 – 16:30, Saturday: 10:00- 15:00, Sunday 10:00-16:30.
Enjoy all that culture.
