The temperature is dropping, leaves are falling, and the nights are drawing in. Winter is well and truly on the way! We at Nonchalant bloody love this time of year. So as we enter the run-up to (**whispers quietly) Christmas we are turning our attention to some awesome wintery date (or gift) ideas.
Do You Like Gin? Stupid Question….
As London shares such a long and intertwined history with gin, we thought we would start there. So we checked out the home of Bombay Sapphire at the Laverstoke Distillery for a fun-filled afternoon of gin, distillery tours, cocktails, architecture and more gin. If you, your mates or your special someone fancy yourselves as gin connoisseurs this is a great place for you.
Beautiful British country setting aside, obviously the main draw here is the gin. Bombay Sapphire is one of the most popular and distinctive gin brands in the world. And for good reason! Its iconic sapphire blue, square bottle stands out at any bar. Bombay’s blend of eleven botanicals packs a citrus punch, balanced beautifully by the juniper, with a distinctive aromatic taste that sets it apart, especially from typical London Dry style gins.
Full Disclosure……. There will be a lot of gin
The distillery offers cocktail making experiences, a brand new cinema space and a beautiful bar and restaurant. Of course, all their cocktails are Bombay inspired. The cocktail experience talks you through the range of gins on offer, a little about the history, flavour profiles and some of their epic gin-making expertise. Alongside detailed instructions and demos on how to make some great gin-based cocktails to satisfy all tastes and palettes.
We know what you are thinking…. But what about a classic and beautifully balanced Bombay G&T? Well, you can also sample some of the well-paired tonics of your choosing whilst checking out the stunning grounds surrounding the distillery; plus the industrial yet organic sapphire lit, Heatherwick designed botanical greenhouse.
The Laverstoke Distillery is situated between Overton and Whitchurch. The rural setting surrounded by rolling countryside and beautiful Victorian brick-built mills makes this an excellent date spot to pair with a wintery walk. Getting to the Bombay Sapphire Distillery is pretty simple from London. Jump on the train at London’s Waterloo station and you can get to Basingstoke, Overton or Whitchurch in about 45 minutes.
There isn’t really a lot left for us to say, other than have a great time. So get booking your slots or your vouchers here. Oh and try the bramble gin, it is a real highlight.
