Nonchalant ~ Top Trainer Collabs To Add to Your Collection

Top Trainer Collabs To Add to Your Collection

The best thing about trainers is that you can wear them all year round and they never look wrong. Well, that’s what we tell ourselves whenever we feel guilty about the amount of money we’ve spent on our collection. They also make the perfect Christmas gift (for yourself or her). So with Christmas fast approaching we’ve rounded up some of the best trainer collaborations out there, past and present, to give you some gift ideas. In no particular order…

1. Vans

Vans are definitely the Queen of trainer collabs, and if our bank accounts allowed it we’d have something from every collection over the past few years, from Snoopy to Marvel, so picking our favourites was tough.

From the range they’ve got out at the minute, there are two stand out collections. The first is the Disney collection to celebrate Mickey Mouse’s 90th birthday (90? Whaaaat?!).

There’s pretty much something for everyone in the Vans X Disney Collab, from bright and busy, to cartoon driven, to the more understated. However, our favourites have to be these Old Skools, white with a touch of Disney at the back and on the tongue (keeping it simple):

The Vans Space Voyager collab is also pretty epic, and it’s selling fast. If you can get some, we reckon you should go for these orange Old Skools dreams:

The Vans x Nintendo collection went down a storm earlier this year. There are a few styles still available from their website, and from those we really like the Zelda Classic Slip Ons, but have a look at some other retailers to see if they’ve still got any in stock – and make sure to check out the soles… cos they’re cool (we couldn’t think of anything else to say… but they are cool) ??

The Toy Story collection was another hit, and again, there’s not much left of them. The Buzz Lightyear Sk8-Hi’s are a good option if you’re shopping from the website.  Definitely check out the soles on these ones too, you wont be disappointed!

2. Converse

The Converse x Chiara Ferragni collab is ace. It mixes the casual converse vibe with a more festive party vibe. Perfect for when you want to be comfy but also have a bit of glitter. Check out these high tops:

The Undercover collab is also a great choice – cool and understated. We’d go for these red low tops:

Picking our favourite Converse collab of years gone by was tough. We managed to narrow it down to four, none of which are available directly from Converse anymore, so you’ll have to do some extra hunting.

They are: The Andy Warhol collection, especially the brillo pads high tops, The Simpsons collection, the Kevin Lyons collab, and, doing it before Vans did it, the Nintendo range.

Add these to your ever growing collection. Basically, there’re art!

3. Adidas

Yeezy, is definitely the most talked about Adidas collaboration ever, but we understand if you don’t want to invest money in those (we’ll say no more). If you like the style though, go for the Pharrell Williams Adidas collection. These Tennis Hu shoes are a good place to start:

4. Nike

The Nike x Travis Scott Collection is a collab with a particular shoe – Travis adds his spin to the Air Force 1s. His trainers are subtle… until you get to the reflective detailing. They’ve also got removable Swoosh logos and velcro patches – pretty cool that you can make them look a bit different each time you wear them. Sadly, they’re sold out on the site, but we doubt it’s the last time Travis and Nike will work together.

The Stefan Janoski collab has been around for a long time, and many say it tops the list of skate shoes. Go for the SB Zoom OG and you won’t go far wrong:

Couple of side notes on Nike – it has a Gender Fluid collection, which is pretty cool to see, and it also has ‘Older Kids’ sizing which goes up to size 6, so if you’re buying for smaller feet you could make a saving.

5. Puma

Puma is probably the best of the traditional sports brands in terms of collaborations. They often get the best R&B artists to work with them, Rihanna being one of them.

Of the lesser known current Puma collabs, our favourite is definitely the Pepsi MAX collection. We reckon even a Coke fan could be persuaded to wear these. Bit of a statement shoe:

If you’re not massively into any of the collabs and prefer sticking to the basics (because let’s face it, some of them are a bit of a childish throwback), then you can’t go wrong with these staples…Our ‘recipe’, if you will:
