We caught up with Sherrelle Holmes, professionally known as Showrelle, the writer and rapper to ask her about what inspires her as both a writer and musical artist and what can her fans expect when they see her at Dinah Shore this year.
What inspired you to start writing books and can you share the story behind your first book and how it came to be?
At my core, I am a writer who finds joy in creating uplifting and inspiring music for my community. The Children’s Book “I Never Knew That I” and its accompanying Rap Along Album, exemplifies my versatility as both an artist and a lyricist. I take pride in crafting music that resonates with all generations.
How do you balance your time between writing books and making music?
Positive energy is crucial for maintaining my motivation and equilibrium. When it comes to my writing, there are no set timelines, guidelines, or restrictions. I simply express my current emotions through my writing. I delve into topics that resonate with me or things that inspire me. Music provides me with a distinctive and varied avenue to convey my emotions.
What messages or lessons do you hope your audience take away from your music?
My goal is for anyone who listens to my music to feel inspired, empowered and unstoppable. We all possess unique talents, and it’s crucial to remember that with hard work and dedication, we can accomplish anything we set our minds to and accomplish our wildest dreams.
How did you get started in the hip-hop scene?
I was raised on hip-hop, it’s a part of who I am. Watching incredible artists while growing up in Philly inspired me to pursue music, and I am grateful for the chance to perform and create music that people enjoy listening to.
What are some of the core messages you aim to convey through your music?
Through my music, I try to encourage people to do whatever it is they love to do. My music conveys the messages of being true to yourself and challenging yourself to live your life unapologetically.
How do you think your music resonates with the LGBTQ+ community and beyond?
I make and have music for everybody. Bringing people together regardless of their gender, race, or background and just having a good time regardless of what you’re going through resonates with my audience. My music is very truthful and I’m all about encouraging people to “do them” at the highest level possible.
You’re performing at The Dinah this year, are you excited and what can fans expect?
As an original fan of the L Word, being able to perform at The Dinah has been at the top of my bucket list. I am extremely thrilled and eagerly looking forward to soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of The Dinah events. One thing is for sure- it’s going to be an amazing experience, so get ready, LITTY COMMITTEE… to have a blast and enjoy the moment!

As for current projects, I am always putting fresh material out. Right now, I recommend everyone to tap into my “Hot As July Mixtape” which is available on YouTube and the Confirmation Album which is currently streaming on all musical platforms. You never know what songs I will perform , so be ready!!!
