Virtual Museums Keeping you Cultured

Art and Culture lovers rejoice, we may be on week whatever of lockdown and yes, it’s getting warmer outside, but you can tour virtual museums without ever leaving your front room. Sourdough be damned; curl up on the sofa and let’s get cultured. Virtual museums are also a fantastic idea to do with friends, a loved one, or perhaps one you are looking to impress. Hop on Zoom, crack open the bottle of wine, and enjoy museums and galleries without having to endure the crowds. Below we have compiled the best virtual museum tours both here in the UK and internationally.

British Museum, London

Ah, the BM, the OG of museums; perfect for dates, family outings, and solo wanders. This treasure trove of classical art, sculpture, and archaeology is a must-see for anyone who visits London. The museum is heavily encouraging people to view their permanent exhibits online with music to guide you along the way!

Musée d’Orsay, Paris

If you’ve never been to Paris, we cannot recommend a virtual museum tour of the Musée d’Orsay enough. Having been built in an old railway station, this museum not only houses some of the most beautiful impressionist paintings but the house itself is an architectural triumph. Van Gogh, Degas, and Monet, D’Orsay has it all!

Picasso Museum, Barcelona

Ah, Picasso, the guy known for messing around with women’s faces and one too many colors. The Picasso museum offers a 360-degree tour around the gorgeous medieval building where some truly incredible pieces are housed. There’s even a hashtag on Twitter #MuseuPicassoVirtual to discuss with other people out there.

The National Gallery, London

No list would be complete without the National Gallery! Who doesn’t love spending an afternoon wandering among some of the greatest pieces of artwork? Home to over 2,300 works of art, you can now virtually walk among them without the hoards of tourists.

The Met, New York

Oh the Met, while we have missed out on the Met Gala this year, we don’t have to miss out on viewing the amazing works of art virtually. The Met has 200,770 objects online, from fashion, sculpture, and artwork, so don your sunglasses and make like Wintour doing a walkthrough (albeit virtually.)

Frida Kahlo Museum, Mexico

Frida Kahlo: feminist icon and a woman who knows how to rock some truly amazing pieces of clothing. The Frida Kahlo museum has some amazing exhibits from her photography to personal paintings. Rarely do these paintings leave Mexico and tour, so this is a fantastic way to see them from the comfort of your own home.

We hope you have enjoyed some of our suggestions on the must-see museums, there are plenty more, and most museums now are offering online exhibits.

If your main goal is to impress with the museum tours, or you are using it as a date idea why not check some of our other date ideas out.

Let us know which ones you check out,
