The lesbian road trip comedy we’ve all been waiting for is finally hitting cinemas so soon, we can almost taste it. Drive-Away Dolls stars Margaret Qualley and Geraldine Viswanathan, who set off on a road trip only to have their plans upturned when they find a mysterious suitcase.
We don’t wanna speak to soon, but we think Drive-Away Dolls has the potential to become an instant lesbian classic. Rumour has it, that this may even be part one of a trilogy.
Who directed Drive-Away Dolls?
This chaotic romp is the first solo directorial effort from Ethan Cohen, known for making more serious dramas with his brother Joel like Fargo and No Country For Old Men. But Drive-Away Dolls is a total departure for Cohen into colourful comedy and camp.
The script was written over 20 years ago by Cohen and his wife Tricia Cooke as a passion project but was never made – until now. Cooke describes it as channelling the spirit of old-school sexploitation movies but with a modern queer twist.
Who is starring in Drive-Away Dolls?
There is an amazing ensemble cast in Drive Away Dolls, including Margaret Qualley, known for The Maid and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Geraldine Viswanathan, a comedy favourite from Blockers and Miracle Workers, co-stars as her road trip buddy.
The film also features two unlikely criminals played by the queer ally of the moment, Pedro Pascal and Oscar-winner Matt Damon, along with Beanie Feldstein and Bill Camp. To top it off, Miley Cyrus and Oscar-nominee Colman Domingo also make an appearance. But wait, there’s more. The dog in the movie is a celebrity in his own right, known for playing Bruiser Woods in Legally Blonde: The Musical. Yup, this stellar lineup promises gay drama and laughs galore.
What Drive-Away Dolls about?
