Interview: Elise Gatschene

This month we caught up with the funny, talented and absolute stunner, model Elise Gatschene and found out what her number 1 beauty tip is (it’s a good one) and what it takes to win her heart.

So, tell us your backstory and how did you get into modelling?

I was scouted at my high school during career day and 6 months later (as soon as I graduated) I moved to Paris!

Is it something you always wanted to do or did you have any other career paths lined up?

I went to an arts school for dramatic arts so I wasn’t too shy to be in front of the camera.. but I had applied to University to do video editing so I guess I would’ve ended up either in front of or behind a camera either way.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve been given?

What you think about you bring about. Positive thoughts create positive results… so true!

We imagine Elise is having some positive thoughts here

For any young women out there trying to get into the modelling industry, do you have any advice?

If they ask for money upfront it’s a scam…  And also no matter what someone tells you, only take that advice if it’s useful to you. If not, let it go…  it’s easy to lose confidence in a market that’s all about looks so stay true to your personality and let that inner beauty shine ✨

Growing up who did you aspire to be?

I don’t think I had anyone in particular in mind. I just wanted to be happy and travel the world for work…  so I guess I’ve made my younger self proud.

If you could give some advice to your younger self what would it be?

Oh man… so much. Stop doubting yourself, you know exactly who you are, keep going.

With your work you travel a lot, where do you like to visit the most?

I love anywhere with a beach!  I’m lucky I’ve got to travel all over, but the warmer places are always a big plus. Paris will forever have my heart though.

Who’s your role model right now? And why?

Greta Thunberg because she has such a big presence in such a small package.  She’s proven one voice can make a big change and it’s about time our leaders are held responsible for climate change.

Do you have any rituals or ways to prepare yourself before stepping on to the runway?

I always tell myself “you are great or other affirmations like that over and over again until I believe it and feel confident. It’s a weird thing I’ve done since I was a kid at dance recitals, etc. but those simple positive affirmations really help with success!

What’s your favourite photoshoot and why?

Probably shooting the MAC makeup campaign at a castle in Scotland. The team was so fun and working with Tim Walker was definitely a highlight in my career.

What’s your number one beauty regime tip and why?

Wash your face.

And for me… (a redhead) I always wear hats because

  1. I consider myself a hat lesbian and
  2. because keeping your face out of the sun is a lot cheaper than Botox or all those expensive creams. Haha
Example of Elise wearing a hat (probs not the type she’s referring to though)

When did you realise you liked women?

When I was very young. But I found it hard because as a femme and liking femme women, I didn’t see myself as the stereotypical lesbian. So for a while I just thought maybe I was asexual and didn’t date until I was 21, which is around the time when I came out

Are you seeing anyone at the moment?

Yes I am!  🙂

Who’s your celebrity crush?

I have so many.  Rihanna, Mila Kunis, Jennifer Lopez, but most of all Chrissy Teigen because if you can make me laugh, you have my heart.

What was the last thing you watched on Netflix?

I binged queer eye in Japan last night.

Coffee or tea?

At least two coffees a day. Oat milk and no sugar.

East London or West London?

Oh dear god… I would love to be anywhere in London right now.

What’s on your playlist right now?

I just made an amazing 2000s playlist because I’ve been missing some of the oldies (would they be considered oldies now?) haha

Have you visited London, and more specifically the queer scene in London, if so what did you think?

I went back and forth to London A LOT when I was living in Paris but didn’t venture out much!  I have quite a few friends from London who I’ve been promising to visit for some time now. (Hopefully in January) and then I’ll be sure to hit up any and all of the girl parties.

Last one, do you plan on coming to London soon?

Hopefully January. If all goes as planned.

Thanks, Elise, if you want to keep up to date with what she is up to check her insta @lisie_g
