We catch up with the team behind the new women-focused Techno night in East London – Koodeta. We wanted to hear more about how this all started.

Who runs Koodeta?

Two London-based women, friends and music lovers.

When did it start?

The first event was in October 2016.

Why did you start it?

We wanted an experience for ourselves and friends that didn’t exist in London, so we created it.

We’ve travelled frequently to experience all kinds of iconic and emerging party experiences and have collected our ideal ingredients of what we feel matters. It’s a fairly self-indulgent endeavour born from feeling disappointed by nights out on our own turf, but we’re very excited about how happy it has made those who have discovered us.

What’s the vibe of Koodeta and who is it aimed at?

Women who like women who love hard-hitting techno. Women who don’t want to compromise on the quality of sound, or be sardined between sweaty bodies when they want to dance. Women who want to shut themselves off from the rest of the world for a night, and just lose and immerse themselves in the music and good vibes.

What can people expect from the night?

An underground experience with an intimate, friends and family vibe. The best sounds from the best female techno DJs that we can hunt down. A sense of freedom. But no photos. Privacy is holy.

What makes it different from other lesbian events?

We’re brought together by our dedication to music and the experience, not just our sexuality. In terms of your orientation, we’re loose and very eclectic, but where music is concerned we hold our standards high.

How often does Koodeta take place and where?

Quarterly. So far all our raves have been held in a sausage factory in Hackney Wick, but as we grow we may well have to move on.

What’s the type of music?

Techno.

Who’s allowed to attend?

Women-identifying only. However it’s not anti-men, we tend to have around 5% males present but they are connected to the creators and align with the vibe.

Thanks guys.
