For this instalment of Killin’ It on Insta we catch up with the very talented dancer Kia Pantazis (@kiapantazis) on her dancing career and a whole lot more.

Your backstory

I started dancing at the age of 2 in my hometown. Since I can remember I have always wanted to be a dancer. I have trained in all styles but at the age of 13 I found a great passion for street dance, which I have been pursuing since. At the age of 18 I attended a performing arts college, The Urdang Academy, in London and I graduated in 2018 with a diploma in dance. Following my graduation, I have performed on The X Factor, in several music videos and recently joined the cast of Thriller Live.

How did you get into dancing?

My mum was a dancer when she was younger and took me to dance classes at the same school she had attended. I was never a confident child but when I discovered street dance I began to flourish and felt like my true self. I was always fascinated by how street dancers moved and used their bodies to tell a story, especially breakdancers. I would spend any free time I had watching films that featured hip hop dancing, such as Step Up, You Got Served and Stomp the Yard, and taught myself the routines in front of the mirror. I also admired so many artists such as Michael Jackson, Britney Spears and Lady Gaga.

Who inspires you?

My family and my girlfriend inspire me a lot. Everything I do, I do for them, and to make them proud.

For any readers that would like to get into dancing, what advice would you give to them?

Learn as much as you can from those you know. It doesn’t matter where you train, or where you come from, as long as you put in the hard work you can achieve. When people put you down try not to take it to heart, even though that is easier said than done! Although it sounds cliché, keep trying even when it gets hard, as that is when you achieve the most. Always believe in yourself and always support your friends.

Did you consider a different career path at any point in your journey so far?

Yes. Aside from dancing I have always been a huge football fan and would have loved to turn this passion into a career. However, when my dancing took off I decided to keep this as a hobby. I still play regularly and I am a die-hard Liverpool FC fan. UP THE REDS!

You featured your girlfriend on Insta – Where did you meet?

I actually met her in a bar in my hometown. We had known of each other for years but had never actually met! I was on a night out with my friends and was standing at the bar, turned around and recognised her instantly! I pretty much fell in love with her straight away. We have been inseparable since!

Who are your role models and why?

My biggest role model is my mum. She is the strongest person I know as she has dealt with so much adversity in her life and yet she has always been there to support my siblings and I. She has taught me to keep going even when the going gets tough!

East London or West London?

North London!

If you had a magic telephone and you could call yourself at 15 years old what would you say?

Everything is going to be okay. You got this.

How long have you featured across your social media?

I have had social media since I was around 15/16. I was never really interested in it at first, until I realised I could use it as a platform to share my dancing and follow other inspiring artists.

How many followers do you have right now?

What else are you up to?

I was supposed to be on tour with Thriller Live, however, due to coronavirus, I am back home with my lovely girlfriend. I get to spend lots of time with her which is really nice! We are using this time to work on ourselves! We work out together every day and have recently completed running 100K in May to raise money for Motor Neuron Disease.

Thanks for chatting to us Kia! If you want to know what Kia is up to give her a follow @kiapantazis.
